This dating is supported by documented Chantal Thomass footwear held by the Palais Galliera / Paris Musées: a Spring–Summer 1989 pair of Italian-made pointed mules uses textile construction, passementerie decoration and leather soles, with closely related proportions and finishing. Chantal Thomass's archive also documents navy heeled mules from Autumn–Winter 1988/89 and canvas mules from 1989/90.
Description: Deep navy blue textile upper with dramatic tonal grosgrain ribbon ruffles following the topline and sweeping toward the vamp. Elegant elongated pointed toe, backless mule construction and slender curved heel. Leather outsole. Made in Italy. The decorative passementerie and theatrical proportions are characteristic of Chantal Thomass's late-1980s design vocabulary.
